I have to admit that I'm am confused about this issue. Who ever told any
of us that our email addresses were secret? They're not. There are
plenty of ways to find an email address if you really want it.

This list in particular spends too much time looking for people. There
are always personal messages from people looking for an email address
for a collegue. The directory will help us get in touch with each
other without having to fish on lists.

Having your email address in a directory help people find you when they
need you. Yes, you will get junk mail, but then, we all do anyway.
Anyone who wanted the museum-l list for purposes of blanketing the
members with junk mail can get it the same way the directory project
is getting it. Stopping this directory project will not keep you
annonymous.

I have personally been "found" by a number of people for a variety of
purposes. I handle it like I do my phone. If I'm interested, we talk,
if not... there's always the delete key.

I think this project will do more good than harm. We need easier ways
to navigate on the net and this is a step in the right direction.
