Axel: During World War II, the Spaeths took into their home an English boy
who grew up to become the excellent writer Anthony Bailey who is, I believe,
a staff writer with the New Yorker.
Bailey wrote a very enjoyable book about growing up, an English boy in an
American household -- the Spaeths -- called America, Lost and Found (and
another called England, First and Last), in which he of course writes of
them. Hope this helps you.
