I realise that this is an old thread... I'm trying to catch up!

Our University Library holds the following items on cultural tourism. The
term has been current here in Australia since about 1987, and has not yet
fallen out of favour to describe the special-interest (cultural) programs
which can either be booked in groups, or undertaken in a less structured
way.

Museums are commonly regarded as a logical DESTINATION for the "cultural
tourist" - so, here in Oz, museum people try to stay connected with the CT
market. There's a "Cultural Tourism Industry Group" here in Melbourne. It
is holding a day-long conference on the subject, in partnership with the
local branch of Museums Australia (the professional association), on 11
October.
