You may know some museum professionals that would be interested in the
following temporary positions at the Missouri Historical Society. Both
positions are for three year appointments as team members working on
the CORE exhibition scheduled to open in late 1999.  Closing date for
both positions:  February 14, 1997.

EXHIBITION DESIGNER  The Missouri Historical Society seeks a motivated
and highly creative Exhibit Designer willing to join an institution
that is looking forward to several years of high productivity.  This
will be a temporary full-time position active for 3 years.  Duties
include:  serving on exhibit development teams and ensuring the
integration of design with all project goals, including;
interpretation, education, curatorial, conservation, and ADA
requirements; performing all design related tasks on assigned
projects, including; conceptualization, rendering, drafting, and
construction specifications; developing related budget and schedule
information; supervising in-house preparation and fabrication;
researching exhibit related vendors and contractors; preparing
specifications for bids, negotiating and supervising completion of
outside contract work for exhibit fabrication and installation.  The
successful candidate should hold a B.A. (M.F.A. preferred) in design
and have 3-5 years experience as a senior exhibits designer.  Also,
the successful candidate will have a reputation for imaginative work,
experience with applying technology in a design setting, and a
demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and to work with a team.
Salary commensurate with experience, salary range mid 30s.  Excellent

EXHIBIT DEVELOPER/WRITER  The Missouri Historical Society seeks and
experienced Exhibit Developer with additional experience in
documentary and dramatic script writing in a variety of mediums, who
is willing to join an institution that is looking forward to several
years of high productivity.  This will be temporary full-time position
active for 3 years.  Duties include:  researching, conceptualizing,
and scripting exhibit components suitable for visitors of all ages;
formatting material appropriately for use in exhibit labels,
videotapes, audio tapes, multimedia, and live presentations;
researching vendors and managing component production.  The successful
candidate should hold a B.A. (M.A. preferred) in a Liberal Arts or
Humanities field, have 3-5 years experience in writing professionally,
and 1-3 years experience in a museum exhibit development.  The
successful candidate will have a reputation for imaginative work, and
a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and to work with a team.
Salary commensurate with experience, salary range mid to upper 20s.
