I usually stay on Ebury Street in London at a bed and breakfast.  Ebury
Street is right behind Victoria Station which makes it very central for
the tube.  It is a street lined with bed & breakfasts but which borders
very elegant neighborhoods and is safe and attractive.  You can get a
room with bath for about 48 pounds and it will sleep two or one without
bath (toilet and shower on each floor) for about 38 pounds.

My favorite of these is Cartref House 129 Ebury, phone
44-1-71-730-6176, fax 44-1-71-730-7338.  It has a wonderful manager who
will call you "my darling" and will help in as many ways as possible.
