PREPARATOR/MUSEUM TECHNICIAN


Position Title: Preparator/Museum Technician (Full-time, State Funded)

Work Location:  Illinois Art Gallery, James R. Thompson Center, 100 West
Randolph, Suite 2-100, Chicago, IL

Job Description: The successful candidate will design and supervise the
installation of all exhibitions at the Illinois Art Gallery and
installations at other Illinois State Museum sites in the State of
Illinois.  This individual will design and coordinate exhibition
presentations in conjunction with Gallery and Museum staff; coordinate
pickup of artwork, arrange for its safe return, provide interpretation of
exhibitions for the public, and perform other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications: B.A. or B.F.A. in an art discipline required; three years
of exhibit installation experience working with a broad spectrum of art
media in a museum, gallery or closely related setting; excellent
interpersonal skills; a valid driver's license and ability to drive a
14-foot truck; preferred working knowledge of Chicago area; and the ability
to lift up to 100 pounds. Applicant must also have a complete knowledge of
packing and crating art objects, an understanding of shipping procedures,
and possess carpentry skills. Computer skills a must.. Applicant should
also have a willingness to work extra hours to meet scheduled deadlines
when necessary.

Salary: Commensurate with education and experience.
