Anita--you'll need a book for all the replies!

I tend to side with those who think "library" is it.

I recall being rather interested in the term "Mediatheque" which the
Canadian Museum of Civilization was using c1989, but when I was there
again last year I recall that the door now says "Library"--does anyone
know if I've got those details right?

If your inquirer really can't use "Library," what about "Information
Center" or "Information Central"?

Best,
John
