Any chance that people will be drinking Coors while discussing "is the Museum Necessary" at the bar? There should be some very interesting conversations, I'll bet.

Exciting Museum conference in the West
October 7-11, 2003
Golden, Colorado

Early Bird Registration ends this Friday (9/12) for the annual regional
(10-states) museum conference hosted by Mountain-Plains Museums Association.
Registrations are flooding in for this one as people head to Colorado and its
mountains for fun, western movies and awesome sessions.
Highlights:
Location: Golden is a wonderful western town near Denver; Coors hometown.
Biggest exhibitor hall ever - over 40 businesses displaying products and
services
2 Great Workshops - Conservation. and Great Tours (based on the best book so
far
   for creating/presenting tours)
Directors/Trustees Day - sessions to help decision-makers run a museum
Fascinating Speakers:  Gully Stanford, Arts Advocate, will discuss arts,
funding
   and challenges. Peggy Engel, Managing Editor of the Newseum in DC, will
discuss
   museums and presenting news.  Her chief exhibits designer, Bryan Seiling,
will
   follow with advice on how to fast track exhibits.  Lou Casagrande, AAM
Board
   Chair and Pres of Boston's Childrens Museum, will give us the skinny on
national
   museum news/issues.  He'll join other AAM Board members at breakfast to
   discuss challenges for today's museums and decision-makers.
Tour to see the Rockies-see Colorado's beautiful mountains up close, visit a
mine
   and see incredible museum collections tucked away in two well-preserved
   mountain towns.
Freaky Friday:  tours to private collections (bikes, cars), scenic areas,
Denver
    sights, nature hike. Day ends with Talent Show and PJ Party featuring
western
    films and songs.
Small gatherings by affiliate groups for you to meet colleagues who do what
you do
    and share tactics
Sessions that cover the gamut:  tribal issues, governance, education,
exhibits,
    volunteers, IRS, training, museum stores, collections, architecture,
capital
    campaigns, financial challenges, insurance, moving collections,
audiences,
    storage issues,  ethics, graphics, marketing, travel exhibits, and more!
    Not to be missed:  "Enhancing Your Vocal Quality/Presentation Style" and
"Is this
    Museum Necessary?"  The latter is a late-nite bar session.

MPMA's 2003 Conference will be held in Golden, October 7-11, 2003.  Why come
to Golden?  Coors, mountains and great sessions and tours.  Plus, it will be
peak foliage time in the Rockies.
MPMA's 2004 conference = Casper, Wyoming: September 7-10 (plan your Labor Day
family vacation around the conference with tours to Yellowstone, etc.).
