Hi Shannon -

I work for a museum/science center with a collection of over 1.2 million artifacts. Our Collections Committee is a permanent part of our administrative structure. Board members and occasionally community members serve on the committee.  I believe the membership of the committee changes every 2 years, and I believe new appointments are made by the outgoing Chair, and the President of the museum with input from the Director of Collections.  Three members of the collections staff sit on the committee in an advisory role - we do not have a vote. The President also sits on the committee, but she does have a vote.  The committee currently meets about 4 times per year, although I think at one time it met more frequently. And finally, the Chair reports actions of the committee to the Executive Committee and then to the full Board.
