I am posting this announcement to the list for my institution:

                         Seminar For Historical Administration
                                     at Colonial Williamsburg
                                       November 3 - 23 , 1996

Co-sponsored by the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, the American
Association of Museums, the American Association for State and Local History,
and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

The goal of the Seminar is to develop and strengthen leadership within the
historical organization/museum community. As the longest running historical
administration program in the country, the three-week Seminar provides an
unsurpassed opportunity for participants to comprehend the most recent trends
and to build networks within the profession and their community. SHA is the
only training program which is sponsored by all four of the leading
historical organizations/museum professional associations.

As a result of participation in the Seminar, graduates advance within
their chosen careers, make professional contacts, and actively contribute to
the excellence of their respective institutions.

If you have been a full-time paid member of the staff of a history museum,
historic site preservation or other historical organization for three to ten
years and are now in a position of administrative responsibility or are
preparing yourself for such a position you should apply for the 1996 Seminar
For Historical Administration.

Trends in historial preservation, cultural tourism, fundraising,
interpretation, community support and historical scholarship provide a
central focus for the Seminar.

Faculty members represent leading institutions from throughout the United
States and Canada. Considered experts in their fields, the instructors
present in-depth sessions on a variety of topics which are current issues
within the historical organization/museum community.

Case studies, skill workshops, forums, panel discussions, and field trips
to major area museums and sites are important components of the cirriculum.
After hours informal discussions and events will focus on similar topics.
Faculty members allow time to meet with the SHA participants on a small group
and individual basis.

Building professional relationships with leaders in historic
administration across the United States is a conscious goal of the Seminar.
To date participants from 45 states and several other countries, including
Canada have attended.

In addition to visiting faculty, the staff, programs and facilities of
Colonial Williamsburg are open to participants throughout the three weeks.

Coordinator for the 1996 Seminar is William T. Alderson, well-known museum
consultant, author, editor, and former director and chief executive officer
of several institutions and museum training programs. As coordinator,
Alderson is availiable to participants for small group and individual
consultations.

Costs for this unsurpassed opportunity including lodging, meals, and a
modest tuition ($500) are approximately $1500.00. Travel expenses depend
upon location.

                 Limited Scholarship Assistance Is Available
