A few years ago, the Canadian Museum of Civilization presented an exhibition
entitled "Just for Nice", which dealt with the folk art of German immigrants to
both Canada and the USA. Included a number of family treasures such as trunks
that had been brought to North America with the immigrants. I don't know if
this is of interest to your german colleague; if so, let me know and I will put
him in touch with the curator of the exhibition
