Joliet Area Historical Museum
Joliet, Illinois

The Joliet Area Historical Museum seeks an experienced curator to manage
its local historical collection of approximately 15,000 artifacts and
documents.  The museum will be moving into a new, 7 million dollar state-of-
the art facility in the Fall of 2002.  Immediate duties will be working
with the museum’s exhibit and architecture consultants to prepare the
collection for transfer and installation.  General responsibilities will
include implementing collections management policies and procedures,
computerization of collection records, assisting with grant applications
for collections/exhibit projects, budgeting for collections care and
exhibition activities, planning and installation of temporary exhibits,
monitoring the condition of the collection, overseeing conservation work,
research, training collection volunteers and the future development of the
collection.  Requirements:  Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s preferred) in
History, Museum Studies or related field with 3-5 years of curatorial
experience, knowledge of professional museum standards and practices,
computer skills, excellent organizational, writing, and speaking skills,
and the ability to work with as part of a team with paid staff and
volunteers.  Successful candidate must relocate to Joliet within 9 months
of start date.  Starting Salary: 32K with excellent benefits.  Send resume
