Can we turn this thread around into a Museums one by
asking:

What artifacts and antiquities stand to be lost as a
result of an attack on Afghanistan, and is there
anything we, as a museums community can do to save
them?

Are there listers in touch with museums in that area
that can provide temporary shelter and support for
treasures it would be an extreme tragedy for
generations to come to lose?

We already lost the gorgeous statues the Taliban
destroyed last year. Can we somehow do something to
make sure that the works of historical import are not
lost.

I know. Seems insensitive when compared to human
loss. Can't stop the human stuff myself, but maybe
somebody here can stop the loss of the treasures by
doing an underground railroad of sorts (mixing it up,
I realize) in order to protect, and perhaps later
return, things generations long gone have left behind
