My museum is facing a small invasion from rats this winter. Currently, I
have trapped and removed from the building, 10 of them. They are
particularly interested in the exhibit items featuring dried corn on the
cob, and green-tanned beaver pelts. I realize these are NOT the best items
to use in an exhibit anyway, because they obviously attract pests, but my
predecessors had an even smaller budget than mine, and used what was
available. While I think I have a pretty good handle on getting rid of the
rats themselves, my exhibits are in shreds, literally. Does anyone out
there have a recommendation for a place that does good quality "fake food"?
I'd like to get some fake corn. And how about "fake hides"? The beaver
hides are integral to the exhibit, and I'd prefer fake ones if such a thing
is available. I could call local taxidermists to obtain real ones, this time
commercially tanned, but that might only perpetuate the problem.
