NY Times (4/21/94) National edition includes an article titled "Science
I.Q. of Americans Is Not O.K., Survey Shows" on p.A7. The article reports
the results of a survey conducted by Louis Harris and Associates and the
American Museum of Natural History that revealed only 21% of the 1225 adults
questioned scored 60% or better on the test which covered basic scientific
knowledge.

Related to Museum-L's thread on creationism and science bashing, less than
50% of the respondents gave the correct answer to a question about humans
evolving from earlier species and notes "the survey did not address whether
religious beliefs might have affected the result." [to this particular
question.]

Interesting reading - does anyone know if the survey results will be available
in published form or how to obtain copies?

Thanks,
