Can anyone on the list tell me whether Pachysandra terminalis (aka Japanese
spurge) was introduced in America in the nineteenth century for the specific
use as a ground cover? I cannot seem to find a reference that indicates this
definitively. I'm also interested in other ground cover species that were
recommended in the Victorian era. I am looking for a variety that thrives in
shade and is evergreen (yes, Pachysandra does seem to fit the bill!) But if
anyone has any references or suggestions of other varieties that they use at
their historic house or site, please contact me off list

Thanks to all!
Jackie
