Several weeks ago there were messages posted about the book Darkness
in El Dorado and the response it has drawn from N. Chagnon and others
whom it indicts for their activities in Venezuela and among the
Yanomami.

The current issue of Science has two very interesting articles about
the book and the issues it raises for anthropology. For those who
don't have access to the paper version, see these URLs for a summary
of the issues

http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/full/291/5503/416

and on the attempts by some to discredit the book even before it was published,

http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/full/291/5503/417

(yes, I've read the book cover to cover - as well as many of the
rebuttals by Chagnon, et al - and find Tierney's argument very
compelling.)
