Chief of Exhibits.  The new 175,000 sf. Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum, opening in April 2001, is a non-collecting museum, engaging visitors in "The Story of Texas" through media, interactive, immersive and traditional exhibit experiences.  The Chief of Exhibits will work directly with the Project's Exhibit and Media Specialist to provide oversight of 34,000 sf. of exhibit fabrication and installation, including exhibit media system installation by contracted vendors.  The Chief of Exhibits will also supervise the fabrication and installation of the first 5,000 sf. temporary exhibit produced by an outside vendor.  Position responsibilities include planning, design, fabrication, scheduling and maintenance for on-going (34,000 sf.) and temporary (7,000 sf. max.) exhibits; working with content historians and advisors; oversight for the artifact loan program; budget and personnel resource management.  B.A. in Museum Studies, History, American Studies, Industrial Design or closely related field.  Five years management experience in exhibit and exhibit media planning, design and production for a facility with at least 15,000 sf. of permanent exhibits and/or 150,000 or more visitors annually;  experience contracting and supervising outside vendors required.  Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and to work effectively in a team situation.  Prefer experience with installation and maintenance of complex, highly interactive exhibits in a high visibility, high traffic setting; demonstrated ability to work with guest curators/content specialists and academic advisors in exhibit conceptualization and development; ability to trouble-shoot in a start-up environment.
