DESCRIPTION
Transforming mission, collections, and research into engaging, inclusive
public programs that respect, reflect and attract communities is a
challenging task for museum educators. This course draws on current
educational research and encourages you to consider creative programming
strategies as you develop your ability to:

 + define the role of public programming and set goals and priorities
 + involve community
 + engage visitors of varied age, background and interests, including
families, students, adults      and groups with special needs
 + develop innovative programming within the museum, on the road and on the
Web
 + respond to visitors' learning preferences and characteristics
 + consider the roles of narrative, meaning making and constructivism
 + facilitate team approaches to program development and delivery
 + plan strategically and manage, market, implement, and evaluate programs

Instructor: Kathleen Kuba is the Director of Education and Community
Programs at the Missouri History Museum.

Dates: March 26-31, 2001

Please register by: February 28 (late registrations accepted if space
permits)

Fee: $589 (Canadian funds, credit or non credit)

Travel: Victoria is easily accessible from Seattle and Vancouver

Accommodation: Program staff are pleased to provide information on local
B&B, hotel, and on-campus options  -- some options as low as $25 CAD/night!
