Summer Internship - Ghost Town Interpreter/Resident Caretaker 

· Application deadline - March 15, 1999
· Notification deadline - on or before April 15, 1999
· Dates of internship - June 2 to Sept 7, 1999
· Payment - $2,100 for length of internship
· 4-5 positions available 
· Vehicle necessary

Qualifications:
Educational background in history, architecture, geology,
tourism/recreation, natural resource management, history education,
interpretation or related field; willingness and enthusiasm for conducting
tours and answering questions; experience with public speaking; first aid
certification helpful.

Duties:  
The interpreter/resident caretaker or "Ghost" is responsible for
interpreting the ghost towns of Independence and Ashcroft to the public
through hourly tours and answering questions about the history and natural
history of the sites; collecting admissions fees; staffing the gift shop;
and performing basic maintenance on the site’s facilities.

Living Conditions:
The Ghost lives on-site in a rustic cabin.  Cabins do not have electricity
or plumbing, but ghosts are provided with the necessary amenities such as
stoves, lanterns and other equipment.  Each cabin has a wood stove for
heating and bulk fire wood is also provided.  Independence is 18 miles from
Aspen and Ashcroft is 13 miles from Aspen.
