It may seem harsh (and I do very much miss having live plants around as
well), but having live fish in museum offices is not a good idea.  

In all seriousness, I would suggest that there are other ways, both very
informal (usb mini desktop aquariums http://tinyurl.com/8xjqk , lava lamps,
or the gadgets at http://thinkgeek.com for just a few of the many options),
and also a bit more in the category of educational (magnetic levitating
globes, magnetic sculptures, etc. see  http://storeforknowledge.com/ ) to
humanize offices, desks, cubicles, and break rooms or other shared spaces.
