** Seafaring moves beneath the surface
In launching its biggest exhibit to date, the Maritime Museum of B.C. has
expanded its mandate from seafaring history to include ocean exploration
** Guggenheim proposes $178 million Helsinki museum
The Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, which oversees the original Frank
Lloyd Wright-designed museum in New York as well as sites in Italy, Spain,
Germany and the United Arab Emirates, has proposed that it and the Finnish
capital jointly develop a Helsinki museum
** War Horse film costumes join Spielberg and cast's artwork at National
Army Museum
Original costumes and props from Steven Spielberg's big screen epic, War

A former manager at the American Numismatic Association Money Museum in
Colorado Springs has pleaded guilty to stealing close to $1 million from his

** Plans to restore crumbling Colosseum cause rumblings in Rome
Plans to restore Rome's nearly 2,000-year-old Colosseum are causing
rumblings among heritage workers and restorers, compounded by reports in
December that small amounts of powdery rock had fallen off the monument
** One of world's oldest copies of the Koran goes on show at British Museum
The Koran, lent by the British Library, will be part of the exhibition,
Hajj: Journey To The Heart Of Islam, the first major collection dedicated to
the Hajj, the pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia
** Museum chronicles the history of toys
The museum traces a time line through four floors, beginning with clay dolls
from 14th century Nuremberg and ending in a case crammed with plastic toys

A rare Roman cavalry helmet dating from Emperor Claudius' invasion of
Britain nearly 2,000 years ago was unveiled on Tuesday after painstaking
restoration lasting nearly a decade

** North Carolina museum draws on moonshine heritage
It's popularly known as "white lightning," "hooch" and "mountain dew" but to
lawbreakers producing homemade whiskey by the light of the moon in an
attempt to not get caught, it's simply referred to as "moonshine"
** Authorities in bid to save derelict Van Gogh house
The house where Van Gogh lodged in the Borinage, where he was an evangelist
among the coalminers, is falling down and jegal measures are being taken by
the local authority to compulsorily purchase the dilapidated building

** Three Lingerie Models Create Chaos at the Musee d'Orsay
The Musée d'Orsay is planning an upcoming show on "Degas and the Nude" for
March, but they didn't expect half-nude models to produce their own
exhibition in the Impressionist galleries one day last month
** Exhibition about dragon opens
On the occasion of the Year of Dragon, the Viet Nam National Museum of
History yesterday organised a special exhibition entitled Dragon on
Antiquities; a unique opportunity for visitors to appreciate the rich
diversity of dragon images across a wide span of Vietnamese historical and
cultural life
** Stolen Meteorite Recovered in New Mexico
A meteorite that landed in Russia in the 1940s and was recently stolen from
the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque has been located
