Preservation Specialist
Conservation Center for Art and Historic Artifacts

The Conservation Center for Art and Historic Artifacts, the regional paper conservation laboratory located in Philadelphia, is seeking a full-time Preservation Specialist for its staff.  This position contributes to the mission of the Center through conducting institutional preservation assessments and disaster plans, developing and presenting educational programs, and providing technical information to libraries, archives, museums, and historical societies.  The responsibilities of this position include conducting on-site preservation assessments with written reports; assisting institutions to develop preservation plans, disaster plans, and collections management policies; developing, presenting, and organizing educational programs and workshops; presenting lectures and preparing programs for professional and lay audiences to promote awareness of preservation and conservation concerns and practices; and providing technical information via telephone, e-mail, and in print on preservation topics.  The Preservation Specialist also maintains familiarity with preservation literature as well as assists in developing the library and reference collection.  The Preservation Specialist may also be called upon to write articles for publication. This position offers potential for professional growth through varied and challenging activities.  

Qualifications include training in and a thorough understanding of preservation principles, practice, and issues; experience in conducting and writing preservation assessments and other planning documents for cultural institutions; talent in teaching and public speaking ; excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills; ability to work independently; MLS, MA in Museum Studies, or MS in Conservation and a minimum of two years experience working in a library, archives, or museum.
