I have a copy of a PhD thesis on the development of Catherine of Austria's
collection which I think might me of some interest to you. This thesis
analyses the nature of Catherine of Austria (1507-1578) Collection and I got
my copy from UMI (University Microfilms International). The author is
Annemarie Jordan and the thesis was submitted to the Brown University in the
USA.

Subject: I need help with early collectors

I wonder if there is anybody who would like to give me and a friend some
help. We are collecting material for a book about early collections and
collectors from 1500 - 1800 with material from the nature and other odd
specimens. My name is Hans Aarenstrup librarian and photographer and my
friend Matz Jorgensen is an author of three books about Linné (and his
collection with specimens from the world).

What we are looking for information about the early collectors and
collections all over the world. Some of these later became the
foundation of toady's modern museums.

We have some interesting names besides (Linné and other Swedish
scientist): Fredrik Ruysh 1638 - 1731, Jan Swimmerdan 1637 - 1680, Johan
Lieberkuhn 1711 - 1756, Pierre Belon, Ferronte Imperato 1550-1625, Jacob
Spoon, David Murray, Samuel von Quikelberg (1529-1567), Ole Worms
(1558-1654), Michael Bernhard Valentini (1657-1729). But there is so
many more collectors and collections that is interesting.

So if you know any books, collections, internetplaces or anything else
that gives information about this part of the museum history, please
help us. All kinds of information could be useful to us.

Thank you Hans Aarenstrup
