MANAGING CULTURAL ORGANIZATIONS
November 5 to 10, 2001 with Tom Lewis, offered by the Cultural Resource
Management Program, University of Victoria

In times of significant change, museums, galleries and other cultural
institutions need a clear sense of mission, achievable goals, effective
leadership, and thoughtful management. This course explores the complex
forces that are reshaping the cultural sector and considers the value of
"performance measures" as a framework for applying principles and practices
that foster relevant and successful cultural institutions. You strengthen
your ability to:
        * Shape the structure and culture of organizations
        * Articulate mission, goals, and performance objectives
        * Provide effective leadership and decision making
        *       Develop and implement policy
        * Support, develop and manage staff and volunteers
        * Plan and manage financial and other resources
        * Undertake strategic and operational planning
        * Strengthen community involvement and support
