I'm sorry you had a terrible experience in a previous job, Aimee.  But,
NO, the original post did not say the job was "half educator/helf
secretarial," this was just assumed.  I think it would benefit this
discussion to not continue with this assumption.

I think there are a great many of us who pick up secretarial,
janitorial, and clerical tasks when needed.  It's part of being a member
of the team.  But, also, many of us pick up other duties simply because
they are not assigned to anyone specifically, and by doing them we make
our museums better places for the visitor.

Personally, I do most of the in-house IT work (network administrator,
troubleshooting, webmaster), most of it is certainly not part of my
original job.  And there are a number of other things I do around here
-- because I'm interested, and I want them to get done.

These sorts of tasks are as much a possibility in the original post as
the ones you assumed.
