POSITION: Collections Management Technician, DS-1001-6/7

LOCATION:

SALARY (commensurate with experience): DS-6: $25,976 - $33,768 per annum
                                       DS-7: $28,866 - $37,523 per annum

TYPE OF APPOINTMENT: This is a Donated Full-time Permanent Appointment with
Benefits.

or under a personal services
contract, within five (5) years after separation with a buyout.

STATEMENT OF DUTIES:  The incumbent of this position performs the following
tasks and activities for the
Museum’s holdings of audio and video testimonies, moving images, sound
recordings, 3-dimensional artifacts,
manuscripts, microforms, and photographic collections:  preservation;
accessioning; collections arrangement;
collections reproduction; and collection retrieval and re-shelving.

SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:  At the DS-6 grade level, applicant must
possess one (1) year of
specialized experience equivalent to DS-5.  At the DS-7 grade level, applicant
must possess one (1) year of
specialized experience equivalent to the DS-6 level.   Specialized experience is
experience that has equipped the
applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform
successfully the duties for the position, and
that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.   As a
general rule, education is not creditable
above DS-5 for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate
education may be credited in those
few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of
the position.

ALL QUALIFICATIONS AND TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET WITHIN 30 CALENDAR
DAYS
AFTER THE CLOSING DATE OF THE ANNOUNCEMENT.

KNOWLEDGES, ABILITIES, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS (KASOCS):

1.      Knowledge of collection management theories, principles, practices and
techniques of the care and handling of
   museum collections.

2.    Experience and good manual skills and fine motor skills in working with
tools and equipment used in the care
   and treatment of artifacts without damage to artifacts or breakage of the
tools.

3.    Ability to operate effectively duplication equipment for audio or
videotape, electronic label production
   software, and photographic duplication equipment.

4.    Ability to communicate in writing and orally to effectively report
regarding treatments, activities, laboratory
   needs, or environmental conditions.

5.    Knowledge of word processing and database software in order to carry out a
variety of collections
   management database functions.
