Hello All,

My reply isn't specific to archaeology, but to anthropology in general.
In addition to university museums (large, medium and small) and large
institutions, some smaller museums are doing more anthropological field
work to enhance their collections.  I was fortunate to work for a
maritime museum that had secured grant funding to hire a folklorist.  It
seems that some museums are recognizing their responsibility to thier
local communities, and fulfilling this responsibility can entail
anthropological research and fieldwork --doing enthnography and oral
history with local groups.

I agree with the person who said you might want to look towards
curatorial work.  Though educators can also get into the act, especially
by providing opportunities for visitors to "do" archaeology (if
appropraite to the museum)and to expose them to anthropological ideas
(many could do with greater exposure to the concept of ethnocentricism
and its consquences).  In my opinion, this is one of the most important
things an archaeologist can do...teach the american public to understand
the importance of archaeology (and that we don't "dig dinosaurs") and
anthropology in our world and our lives.
