Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden

seeks qualified applicants for the position of

Director of Finance and Administration

Position Summary:  The Director of Finance and Administration is the
Garden's chief financial officer and is responsible for overseeing routine
financial operations as well as for budget preparation and monitoring,
financial analysis and forecasting, and preparation of financial statements
and reports required for management decisions and Trustee oversight.  The
position is also responsible for managing the Garden's central support
services such as contracts and grants, personnel administration,
maintenance and security functions, legal and insurance services and other
special projects that further the accomplishment of institutional
objectives.

Reports to:  Executive Director

Primary Responsibilities:

*   Oversee day-to-day financial operations by Staff Bookkeeper; perform
accounting functions, as necessary, to accomplish month-end and year-end
closings;

*   Prepare Balance Sheet, monthly, reconciling accounts and funds; manage
Restricted Funds and bank accounts;

*   Act as liaison with Garden's investment firm in managing Endowment fund;

*   Act as liaison with and assist auditors in performing annual audit;

*   Act as contract manager and authorizing official on government grants
and private contracts, prepare budgets and periodic financial reports and
monitor contract fulfillment;

*   Review and approve all major purchases and vendor contracts;

*   Prepare Annual Budget by establishing guidelines for departmental
managers to write cost center budgets and then reconciling Income to
Expense projections; submit final budget for approval by Board of Trustees;


*   Assist department managers to adhere to budget through monthly
financial reports and reviews;

*   Maintain Garden's ongoing affiliation with The Claremont Colleges and
The Claremont Graduate School with respect to benefits management and
payroll services; ensure the needs of the employees are being met;

*   Participate in strategic program planning to accomplish the Garden's
mission;

*   Manage all insurance coverage needs;

*   Act as liaison to the Colleges' Computing Center on systems support and
implementation of computer modernization;

*   Work with Director of Maintenance to assess physical plant and
infrastructure needs and security;

*   Oversee Gift Shop operations;

*   Manage the Garden's human resources:  assist department managers with
personnel management issues, supervisory training, performance reviews;
implement guidelines and training with regard to sexual harassment,
violence in the workplace, safety.

Qualifications:

*   Master's in Business Administration or equivalent.  Five year's
experience in managing a business or organization.  Familiarity with
non-profit institutions and Fund Accounting.  Experience with retail
operations helpful.

*   Experience in personnel management.

*   Management and leadership ability.


Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden (RSABG) is a 70-year old institution
dedicated to the collection, cultivation, study and display of native
California plants.  The Garden is a private, non-profit research and
educational institution with extensive library, herbarium and laboratory
facilities.  As an affiliate of The Claremont Colleges, the Garden is also
responsible for the RSABG Graduate Program in Botany for The Claremont
