Marcia - The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in NYC offers a Masters in Museum Studies in either Decorative Arts or Costume/Textiles, and students may choose between a curatorial or conservation course emphasis. I don't know much about the Costume/Textiles courses, but Valerie Steel is an instructor at FIT and Richard Martin, now curator of the Costume Institute at the Met, was a former dean (and instructor?) at FIT. The program started in the mid to late 1980's.

Hello,

I am looking for information on universities that have master's programs in
material culture, particularly in costume or textiles. Are there any in
Canada? If there isn't a master's program in costume in Canada, could I do
it through an art history or museum studies program? I would also be
interested in information about schools in the U.S.

Thank you,
Marcia McLean
