Any spray designed to kill wasps or hornets will work on yellow jackets
(which are just a kind of social wasp).

I've successfully used a non-toxic (to people and pets) insect spray based
on high concentrations of peppermint oil. It kills them pretty fast and you
should be able to first spray the outside of the nest and then into it after
the first ones have been dispatched.

I found that spray at my local hardware store, so it's not that exotic.
