Monifa,

The "Artists in Canada" reference database (available at the Canadian Heritage Information Network site) lists a J. Knowlton who may be your guy (appears to have worked in a range of styles, including hard-edge abstraction). The entry is as follows:

  Knowlton, Jonathan

  Technique:
            Printmaking;Painting

  Sex:
      Male

  Address:
          Edmonton Alberta Canada

  Born:
1937 New York New York U.S.

  File Location:
University of Calgary - Performing Arts
              Edmonton Public Library
              Edmonton Art Gallery - Library
              Vancouver Art Gallery - Library
              National Gallery of Canada
Art Gallery of Ontario - Library
Winnipeg Art Gallery - Clara Lander Library

The institutions listed each hold vertical files on this artist. Contact information for the institutions is available at the CHIN web site.

Hope this helps,

Hello Everyone,

I'm having problems identifying the artists of two prints.

Has anyone heard of these artists:

J or G Knowlton (sp?) born in Canada? The piece is a hard-edge abstraction
entitled
"0-II" dated 1969

D. Guardino? The piece is an etching entitled, "The Nobleman" dated 1976

Thanks for any help you are able to offer!
