The following IMLS story is live on their website!

Each month the Institute for Museum and Library Services (IMLS) website shares information about best practices in libraries and museums nationwide, raising public awareness about the value of IMLS funding and its grantees. The IMLS has selected the latest module Preservation Self-Assessment Program (PSAP) to be the featured in a story on the IMLS website (IMLS.gov) and in its e-newsletter. The PSAP is a free online assessment tool that assists collection managers in identifying and prioritizing the care of photographic, audiovisual, and paper and book materials, and now includes objects made of stone, ceramics, glass, and metal. Through the inspection of artifacts, as well as the evaluation of environments and institutional policies, PSAP users receive a detailed preservation report that prioritizes collection preservation risks. The tool also functions as a resource advising on many facets of collections care. It provides information to help collection managers decide on actions they may take to reduce risks to their collections. The PSAP is made possible by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services and by leadership from the University of Illinois Library in partnership with the Spurlock Museum, the Illinois State Archaeological Survey, The Illinois Heritage Association, and others. Learn more about the PSAP at
