The Octagon, the museum of The American Architectural Foundation is
circulating an exhibition that celebrates the buildings that have received
the American Institute of Architect's 25-Year Award. Structures like
Rockefeller Center, the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, and Dulles International
Airport stand out in the American landscape, capturing our imaginations and
altering the way we think and live. The 25-Year Award, more than any other,
acknowledges the relationship between architect and client and celebrates
the relationship of building to community. This award, instituted in 1969,
celebrates the enduring power of good design. It serves as a reminder that
architecture of special significance and broad influence can be fairly
judged only in retrospect. The exhibition examines how these buildings have
affected our communities; the experience of their users; and modern
architectural styles, technology, and practice. Each structure, by its
contribution to the community in which it stands and to the nation as a
whole, has transformed American life and architecture for the past
half-century.

The exhibition was made possible with the generous support of CNA/Schinnerer
Insurance Programs, the American Institute of Architects, The AIA College of
Fellows, The Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts, and
McGraw-Hill Construction Information Group.

Structures of Our Time: 31 Buildings that Changed Modern Life is available
for six-week bookings, not including travel time. If you have any questions
or are interested in booking the exhibition, please contact Wendy Wiener at
