Manager of Library Education Programs
Full Time Exempt

General Description:
The Manager of Education Programs plays an essential role in the development and provision of educational programs and resources for teacher and student audiences.  The primary responsibility of this position is to plan, create, implement, and evaluate educational programming under the supervision of the Vice President of Education. Programming initiatives include George Washington Teacher Institute programs such as the Summer Residential Program, regional workshops, and library student programs.  The Manager also represents Mount Vernon at conferences and educational events.

The position reports to Mount Vernon's Vice President of Education, who leads Mount Vernon's Department of Education.


Duties:

  *   Works closely with the Vice President of Education to create and conduct professional development programs including residential and regional teacher programs and online and distance learning sessions.
  *   Represents Mount Vernon at state and national conferences.
  *   Conducts evaluation of Mount Vernon's teacher programs.
  *   Leads the coordination of The Washington Library Student Programs
  *   Assists the Vice President of Education as needed.
  *   Assists with the writing and editing of teacher training, classroom, and promotional resources in print and digital formats.
  *   Assists with the tracking of curriculum standards, educational trends to ensure Mount Vernon educational materials alignment.
  *   Manages communication with external scholars and Mount Vernon staff who support Teacher professional development and library student programs.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  *   Master's Degree in history, museum education, education, museum studies, or related field.
  *   Three years' experience in program development and coordination.
  *   Strong writing and editing skills.
  *   Strong oral communication and public speaking skills.
  *   Clear understanding of and ability to integrate new education and technology trends and standards.
  *   Knowledge of museum education practices and program evaluation.
  *   Strong interpersonal skills with scholars, teachers, contractors, students, and Mount Vernon colleagues.
  *   Demonstrated ability to follow administrative and financial policies and practices.
  *   Strong organizational skills; ability to track several projects simultaneously and to prioritize workload.
  *   Knowledge of computer programs and systems such as Microsoft Word, Amazon Fire, and Google drive.
  *   Ability to travel, work non-traditional hours, and additional hours as programs require.
