Regarding the UBC Museum of Anthropology in Vancouver B.C.--we have two
volunteer organizations, one called Volunteer Associates who work in many
areas of the museum and the other called Shop Volunteers who work
exclusively with the Museum Shop. Both organizations have a president, in
the case of the Volunteer Associates the president and executive are
elected, there are monthly meetings and an AGM. We do not have a staff
coordinator, rather volunteers commit to on different committees (such as
archaeology, collections, conservation, library, public programmes) and on
specific projects and therefore work with staff members in those areas.
The VA president and internal coordinator (both elected positions) meet
regularly with the museum director. It's a structure that allows the VAs
to move around to different areas every now and again if they are
interested to do so and if there is space available on a particular
committee.
