Title:  Museum Historian

Description:  Oversees historical research relevant to the Museum’s

mission, exhibits, and programs and ensures that sound, professional

research methods are used.  Duties include conducting primary and secondary

research; documenting research; translating research findings into label

copy, public presentations, and publications; maintaining a research

library and monitoring its budget; assisting in the planning and

development of exhibits; preparing reports and articles; and supervising

volunteers and interns.



Minimum requirements: Masters degree in History or related field and 2

years experience in historical research using primary and secondary

sources; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.   Ph.D.

in History or related field preferred. Must be able to evaluate research of

staff, volunteers and consultants and have a valid NC Drivers License and

good driving record.    Pre-employment drug screening and criminal

background check.



Hours: 8:30AM-5:30PM weekdays; must be available for weekend coverage,

evening meetings, special events, and emergencies.
