Hi Ms. Klingler,

It might be beneficial to instruct your artists to have digital works 
submitted *as* slides. Most photo service houses can take digital 
originals and produce 35mm slides or larger transparencies as easily as 
prints using a device called a film recorder.

The major caveat is that the artist should use a very high resolution 
image. Most LCD projectors display an image at the equivalent of an 0.8 
or 1.3 megapixel digital camera. Even a lower quality film recorder, 
though, can make full use of an image in the 12 megapixel range.

This would help to put the artists on a more even footing and make sure 
that the image quality of their entries does not suffer.
