The HARVARD UNIVERSITY ART MUSEUMS are seeking applications for the
position of Assistant Curator of Asian Art. The job description follows:
 
Assistant curator will participate in all activities of the Asian Art
Department, whose collection of more than 20,000 works includes examples
from South, Southeast, and East Asia, with strengths in early Chinese art
(ritual bronzes, archaic jades, and Buddhist sculpture), Korean painting
and ceramics, Japanese calligraphy and printing (ukiyo-e prints, surimono,
and printed books). Assistant curator will work under supervision of the
Curator of Chinese Art and will have significant responsibility for
planning and implementing programs on Japanese art. Will share fully in
day-to-day operations of the department, including the care of and research
on the permanent collection, organization of loan shows, collections
cataloguing, acquisitions, gallery labeling, answering scholarly inquiries
and general correspondence, making works in storage accessible to students
and visitors, improving organization, storage, and documentation of
collection, collection computerization (working with Registrar's Office),
and supervising student and casual employees.
 
Required: Ph.D. (or A.B.D.) in history of Asian Art, including general
familiarity with all aspects of Asian art; specialization in Japanese art
with appropriate East Asian language skills; demonstrated writing and
research skills. Prior curatorial experience preferred. Position starts
