Cincinnati Museum Center will present a public colloquium on The Ohio River
Valley and the American Civil War on Monday, September 18 from 9:30 am to
5:30 pm.  There will be presentations by four historians:

                Dr. Phillip S. Paludan from the University of Kansas on The People's
Contest:  The Civil War in American Life

                Dr. Christopher Phillips from the University of Cincinnati on Shades of
Gray:  The Civil War and Southern Identity in the Lower Ohio Valley

                 Dr. Mark Grimsley from Ohio State University on Citizenship, Manliness
and Soldier Motivation

                Fath Davis Ruffins from Smithsonian Institution on The Civil War:  Mythos,
Memory and History

        There will be a question and answer period at the end of the day.  Dr. John
Fleming, Chief Operating Officer of the National Underground Railroad
Freedom Center, will moderate.

There is no fee to attend the colloquium but we would like people to
register in advance as seating is limited.

We are offering the option of a box lunch which can be purchased for $12.
Choice of sandwich:  Turkey, chicken salad or roast beef.  Payment must be
made in advance.

Reservations and lunch payments can be mailed to the address at the end of
