Summer Internships: Education Department
Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum
St. Michaels, MD

Located on 18 waterfront acres in historic St. Michaels, Maryland, the
Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum is dedicated to preserving and interpreting
the heritage of the Chesapeake Bay.  The Museum's exhibitions, educational
programs and collections of Chesapeake Bay maritime artifacts including
more than 85 traditional Bay watercraft, tell the story of how the Bay came
to be, what its role has been in our nations history, and how it has
shaped the lives of everyone who has lived around it from native Americans
to colonists to watermen today.

The Museum's internship program is an integral part of its educational
activities.  Internships provide students with the opportunity to gain
training in their specific area of expertise as well as an overview of
museum practices and policies.  Individuals working towards graduate or
undergraduate degrees in museum studies, history, education or related
fields are invited to apply.  Internships are for 10 - 13 weeks, beginning
My 28, 1999.  The Museum provides a weekly stipend of $125 plus housing.

Working in the Museum's education department, the intern will be
responsible for developing interpretation and related school and public
programs for 100 year old Chesapeake Bay schooner.  The intern will also be
responsible for assisting in leading tours, program registration and
special  events coordination.
