Dylan-

Since you are in Los Angeles area, contact The Grantsmanship Center.
Their website is www.tgci.com and they should be able to help you
research start-up/seed money and other funding for your project, take a
grantwriting class, and most importantly, never forget the ethics of
running of non-profit. If you do, you will become like so many other
corrupt and inefficient businesses and we don't need more of that in
this world.

BTW- when beginning a project like this, what else is out there? What
research have you done on existing non-profit galleries that you could
team up with at least as an advisory if not cooperate and make the same
theme stronger in one place rather than struggle and compete for two
potentially weaker organizations?
