In Colmar, France, two churches have been secularized into museums. The
Isenheim Altarpiece by Matthias Gruenewald is the spectacular culminating
event in a magical tour through the museum housed in the buildings,
cloister and church in what is now the Musee d'Unterlinden. Not far away
is the Madonna of the Rose Arbor, by Martin Schongauer, also in the nave of
a once were church. I'm sorry I've forgotten the names of the churches and
have no reference material at hand, but an Internet search can probably
provide them for you.

Find an excuse to visit them. They and the rest of Alsace are wonderful.

PS. The church of Hagia Sophia was a mosque that the Turkish government, in
a brave and enlightened act, secularized as a museum, but that is the
building itself that is being celebrated.

PPS. When this note was submitted the accent over the e in musee and the
umlautted u in Gruenewald turned up as Mus=E9e and Gr=FCnewald. Is this my
problem or does this list accept only amerakan anglish.
