Hello!

As part of some research we are conducting at my museumt, we have a need for
information on the social history of brass/iron beds. While we have a fair
amount of general information from the peak of their popularity (Sears
Catalogues, etc) we are trying to learn more. Where were they first made?
When? When they first appeared, who bought them? How were they initially
marketed? I assume that they were generally a working-class furnishing (this
from photos of them in use in factory housing, servants' quarters, etc) but I
suspect that the sanitation-based philosophy of home management in the late
19thC may have pushed them more into homes of the middle class. What we need,
however, is documentation. Can you help? Feel free to respond on the list, or
to Email me directly: [log in to unmask] Thanks!

---- Erik.
