for a Special Events/Communications Coordinator (APA 11) to develop and
implement special programs and events, and disseminate museum information
through public relations and marketing efforts.

The coordinator interacts with staff and volunteers, and serves as the
primary point of contact with large and diverse audiences on and off
campus. S/he is liaison with other cultural organizations on campus, in
the community and across the state. The coordinator designs, implements,
and evaluates special events in coordination with staff and volunteers;

advertising strategies and identifies target audiences; develops content
for and edits promotional materials, news releases, publications, flyers,
website; works with graphic designers on invitations and newsletters. This
person represents Kresge Art Museum and the university at meetings, civic
functions, local and regional business organizations, professional
associations and related groups, sometimes involving evening and weekend
hours. The coordinator recruits, hires, and trains volunteers to ensure
high quality projects and events, and supervises the student employee who
designs and updates the website.

The job requires: knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be
acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in
Communications, Marketing, or Public Relations; one to three years of
related and progressively more expansive work experience in marketing,
advertising and creative services, and special event coordination and
management. Experience in composing, editing and publication production,
news and print media; word processing; desktop publishing; knowledge of
spreadsheet and/or database software; public presentation; or an
equivalent combination of education and experience.
