Colditz Castle in Saxony was used during WWII as a supposedly escape proof special camp for Allied officer Prisoners of War who had tried to escape. It was noted for many daring escape attempts. In the last year of WWII about a hundred prisoners contributed to building parts of a remarkable glider that was assembled secretly in one of the attics. This would have been launched from the roof had the war continued. A third scale model now in the Escape Museum proved to fly beautifully.

The "Colditz - Gateway to Saxony" site has now been refurbished. You are invited to visit Colditz Castle and Escape Museum and the art exhibition; "Everyday life in Oflag IVC" and go on a virtual tour of the town. There is a plan of the castle and a page of useful links to Saxony. There are details of how to get to Colditz and where to stay.

Visit the refurbished website at:

Feedback in the visitors book most welcome.
