Apologies if I'm mistaken, but it appears that you are blaming the
visitor for misunderstanding displays. Surely, if visitors are
consistently getting it "wrong", it is more likely to be the fault of
the curators and interpreters for not communicating effectively and
helping visitors make the connections they intended?

Dear Regan Forrest,

Yes, in some case you are right: many art museums give not enough
precise information and background on art works and leave it all up "to
the catalogue", audioguide, guided tours, or only object cards. Other -
this is what wrote about - offer this information, but the visitors seem
more interested in a short run through the exhibition or to present
themselves within the exhibition (a social event) that they are not
interested in the mental nutrition of the museum thinking it might be
sufficient for them to classify the exhibits as "nice conversation
pieces".
I do have nothing against a a clear cut of object remarks of museum
curators and museum visitors. I have made it clear that I am against an
"instead of". Any visitor has of course the personal right to make up
his/her mind on the content of information spread by classified museum
staff.

Christian
