The National Academy of Sciences cordially invites you to register for its
upcoming Sackler colloquium entitled "Scientific Examination of Art: Modern
Techniques in Conservation and Analysis" to be held in Washington, D.C., March
20-21, 2003. You are also invited to attend the annual Sackler lecture at 6 pm
on March 19, to be given by Ing. Maurizio Seracini of Editech, Inc. This
colloquium brings together scientists and conservators to discuss recent and
emerging methods and techniques and their role in the study and preservation of
museum artifacts. The first day of the colloquium will feature overviews of the
field, focusing on individual media: painting, paper, photography, stone, and
ceramics. The second day will turn toward the applications of emerging
techniques, such as laser technology, the aging of pigments, and imaging
techniques. The registration fee includes meals, sessions and abstracts.

More information, including the preliminary program and registration forms are
