Hello Fellow Listers,

My museum has recently been offered a candy salesman's sample kit for our 
collections.  We are very eager to accept it, but there the object is 
infested with moths and as of now, it is still at the donor's residence so 
as not to infect our collections.  Compounding the problem is the fact that 
it contains the original wrapped candy.  Some of it is somewhat melted and 
who knows what else is doing inside some of those wrappers.  I believe the 
kit dates to the 1940's or so.  The kit appears to be made of aluminum (or 
similar thin metal material) and the kit itself contains the actual candy 
that is approx. 60 years old.  I do not know what the lining material 
consists of.

My question is multi-part.  One - how do we get rid of the moth situation?  
Two - does anyone have any information on how to best accomodate a composite 
object such as this?  Three - what can be done in the meantime while I try 
to find funds for a conservator?  Four - Can anyone recommend a conservator 
who is qualified to work on an object such as this?  We are in the NY/NJ 
area.
