There are some great patterns and some places you can buy on the net. The
Atlanta History center has made a pattern of an 1850 dress which is
excellent. First you need to decide a more definite date or at least a
decade if you want any accuracy, fashions changed very fast in that century.

You may consider getting patterns and either have volunteers or hire out
sewing. Basic cottons and woolens can be found that are close to accurate.
